Best people for banner ads anyone? I'm looking for something pretty discreet, and if at all possible not supporting some evil multi-national. After those two main requirements I guess it comes down to who makes the site-owner the most money, and is easiest to deal with, and so on.

03:37 pm - Virgin Media: Worlds Worst Broadband Provider.
About 4 months ago, we added on an extra set-top box to our cable package with Virgin Media. A couple of days latter, when the bill was due to be paid, money was a little tight. I called up their billing department and asked if it was okay to pay them a little late this month. Had they said no, I would've paid - it wasn't that I didn't have the money, I just fancied a little wiggle room. The Scottish sounding "Zahir" on the end of phone took a look at my account and said "lolz, youz only O 29p, it's coolz!!!!!!1" Not a big deal, I obviously had enough in the account to cover that. I was obviously a little skeptical about Zahir's claims though, so I asked him for some sort of call reference, or at least his surname so that I'd have some sort of comeback. He wouldn't give me anything like that, saying it was elementary, and there was no way it could be a mistake. "Are you the only Zahir that works there?", I asked. He just laughed.

You've obviously already guessed that 3 days latter I got a bank letter saying I was emergency overdrawn, and had been charged £25 for the privilege.

The Co-Op were great. They completely understood, and said that fuck ups from Virgin Media are quite common. Even the assistant told me that she uses Virgin and they did exactly the same shit to her. They gave me my charges back, and it's not even the first time I've incurred a charge - Virgin did a similar thing the first month I was their customer. The Co-Op gave me those charges back as well.

I called Virgin, and the next guy I spoke to spent about 30 seconds looking at our account and said "Did you call up at the end of this guys shift? Because basically, he's looked at the screen saying you owe money, and just invented this 29p figure. I can only assume he was desperate to go home, or had just had the sack or something. Sorry". Now, whilst he did say sorry, and admitted it was completely their fault, he did refuse to refund me my bank charge, or the charge they levy for a late payment. I had to call up their credit department and berate the poor bastard on the end of the phone for an hour before he finally caved to me, and gave me all my money back. There was however one condition. I had to pay them 2 months bill, and the charges in order to get their system to be able to re-start the standing order, so that they could then give me that money back, as if their poor choice in programmer is anything to do with me. I gave in to that, and agreed.

You've obviously already guessed that they just did exactly the same thing next month. I went through the same shit, and finally, fingers crossed, it'll be alright this time.

Meanwhile, turns out I can't download certain things now, without being told off.

Next, today I get a letter saying they are "curbing the speed" of their broadband, because some people are using it too much. So now, the package I bought almost solely for it's lack of throughput-cap, has one. Not only that, they are also reducing the bandwidth! This next bit is pretty funny. They have a table in this letter explaining, in double-decker-bus-math, how much I'll be able to download a day. The unit they use is MP3s! Hooray for irony! Even ironyer here is the URL they provide in the letter about how they are going to make my broadband slower.

I have about 10 months of a 12 month contract left to go, because of that extra box, but you can get away with simply not ever starting up with them. So do that.

You know how "Yeah, but I preferred their early stuff." is true of any band you like? Do you think that's because most bands' first, and to some degree second albums are largely made up from songs that they performed and honed before they were recorded, whereas subsequent albums tend to work the other way - songs are written, recorded, and then performed? Am I clever for realising this, or is this something that's obvious, and that everybody already understood?
